Factorio Ratio Calculator

Calculate production rates, assembler counts, furnace counts, belt lanes, and power draw for the Factorio items that bottleneck most starter and mid-game factories.

// interactive calculator

Calculate assembler counts from your target rate

Pick an item, enter the items per minute you want, and size the machines, belts, inputs, and power budget before placing the first blueprint.

// preset ratios

Common Factorio ratios worth memorizing

These presets cover the building blocks most players repeat across every base: smelting, circuits, starter science, and steel. Use them when you want a quick sanity check before scaling a calculator result into a larger blueprint block.

Build
Ratio

Build
Iron or copper smelting
Ratio
5 electric drills : 8 stone furnaces : 4 steel/electric furnaces
Use it for
Turn one 150 ore/min patch slice into the right number of early or upgraded furnaces.
Build
Yellow-belt plate column
Ratio
48 stone furnaces or 24 steel/electric furnaces
Use it for
Fill one yellow belt with 900 plates/min without starving the final furnaces.
Build
Green circuits
Ratio
3 copper cable assemblers : 2 green circuit assemblers
Use it for
The classic direct-insertion block for electronic circuits at matching assembler tiers.
Build
Red circuits
Ratio
1 copper cable assembler : 6 red circuit assemblers
Use it for
Keep advanced circuit cable local while feeding green circuits and plastic from the bus.
Build
Automation science
Ratio
1 gear assembler : 10 red science assemblers
Use it for
Build a compact early science block with gears made on-site.
Build
Steel production
Ratio
1 iron plate furnace : 1 steel furnace
Use it for
For matching furnace tiers, one iron smelter feeds one steel smelter continuously.

Why production ratios matter in Factorio

Factorio production ratios are the connection between recipes, crafting speed, belt throughput, and the machine count you actually place. If one ingredient line runs slower than the machines that consume it, the whole build idles even when the layout looks full.

A good ratio calculator turns a goal like 60 green circuits per minute into a concrete shopping list: circuit assemblers, cable assemblers, copper plates, iron plates, belt capacity, and a rough power budget. That makes it easier to reserve enough main-bus lanes and avoid rebuilding the same block after every research tier.

Use this tool from the output backward. Choose the item your factory needs, set the target items per minute, then size the upstream smelting, circuit, and science blocks so the slowest ingredient still reaches the machines at full rate.
